FAQs

Some of our most frequently asked questions

  • Want to come sniff around?! We don’t blame you! You are welcome to tour our facility and meet our staff PRIOR to your pet’s stay. Experience shows that a lengthy drop-off is very stressful on your pet. We want you to be happy and comfortable knowing that your pet will be cared for before the day of departure. A pleasant, positive drop-off helps your pet feel secure and eases the transition.

We do not offer tours under the following circumstances:

    • During holiday or school vacation breaks

    • On the day you are dropping off your pet

    • If you are accompanied by small children

You do not need to pre-schedule a tour, but please try to come during the following hours as early morning/evening hours are our busiest times:

    • Monday through Friday: 10am–3pm

    • Saturdays: 10am–2pm

    • Sundays: 10am–3pm

  • BOARDING: If you are interested in overnight boarding, we do require you to make a reservation. While we do understand things come up – we can typically accommodate short notice “campers” as long as we have all of your pet’s vaccination records up to date. It is important to note that holidays (such as Thanksgiving and Christmas) and school vacation times can book months in advance, so it is best to get your reservations in as soon as possible for those times.

DAYCARE:  Reservations for daycare are also strongly recommended but we can typically accommodate last minute reservations. Reservations are required for holidays and school vacations.

  • You can request a reservation online here, email us at info@cohassetkennel.com or give us a call at (781)383-1475. If you are calling us, please leave a message and we will get right back to you!

  • There is no cancellation fee but we do appreciate as much advance notice as you can give us!

  • There is no one on site overnight. Studies (and experience) show dog sleep better at night without a human roaming around/making noise. Getting a good night sleep after a busy day of play is crucial for the health and well-being of your pet! If your pet requires overnight care we recommend an in-home pet sitter instead of a kennel environment.

  • Our facility runs with incredibly high safety standards and our staff is trained in pet behavior and playgroup management. We monitor all dogs and do everything possible to keep a safe, fun, and loving environment at all times. But, much like human kids, accidents can happen! Normal playtime incidents are minor and can include scratches, nicks or pull patches of fur. While it is very rare, when working with animals there is always the possibility of more serious incidents. Not only do we work hard to reduce playtime accidents, we do everything we can to eliminate any spread of illness. Our facility follows industry standard cleaning procedures and use veterinarian-grade disinfectants to clean our entire facility. In addition to requiring all pets to be vaccinated, we also have the right to deny any pet that appears ill. If we identify a pet in our care who looks sick or injured our staff quickly assess the situation and, depending on severity, we will inform the owner and take the pet to the nearest veterinary clinic. For minor issues we can apply first aid and encourage the owner to have the pet checked out by a vet when possible.

  • It’s a fact: a tired dog is a happy dog! And your pup will most likely go home feeling pooped! This is normal as our facility is a very stimulating environment. Instead of napping on the couch like they would at home, a lot of our guests are up and about throughout the day – going for walks, participating in playgroups, checking out who’s coming/going or seeing what their neighbor is up to. It’s not uncommon for pets to sleep a lot or even skip a meal after arriving home. You may also notice your dog appears thirsty as well. Rest assured water is always readily available for all of our guests, some dogs naturally eat/drink less while boarding (new environment/not as comfortable as they are at home) so they may try and catch up when they arrive home. Other times the simple increase in activity may also make your pup feel like they need to increase water intake.

  • You are welcome to bring your own food to keep your pet on their regular diet while you are away. We will go over all feeding instructions with you at the time of drop-off to ensure your pet is staying on schedule and receiving the proper amount of food per meal. We ask that you please bring enough food for their stay in a labeled, disposable bag so we can easily place the food/treats in the door container of your pets run. Please do not send any large, plastic storage containers or 20+ lbs bags of food unless their stay calls for that amount. We provide all food bowls and have measuring cups/scoops.

If your pup is used to receiving canned food or any other additions to their meals please send them in! We have a fridge/freezer and can accommodate most raw diets and additives. Again, please send in enough for your pets stay and label all bags/cans with your pet’s name.

    Complimentary House Diet:

For pups, we offer Iams standard adult mini-chunks kibble at no extra charge. This chicken based formulation is an excellent source of protein and contains all the essential minerals and amino acids. The mini-chunk size will suit even the smallest breeds. For cats, we carry the Iams standard dry cat food. We do not carry any canned cat food so if your kitty is finicky please send some in!

You know your pet and their ability to handle food changes best! Please be aware sudden changes in diet can result in gastrointestinal reactions like vomiting and diarrhea – so if your pet has allergies, sensitivities or if you just aren’t sure, please bring their own food.

  • Bedding:

As an extra step in infection control, we do not accept any outside bedding. We understand our guests are spoiled at home, which is why we provide fleece padding and blankets that can be placed on our raised beds!

    Toys:

We ask you please do not bring any toys including balls, stuffed animals etc. Your dog will enjoy watching other furry guests, interacting with our staff, going out for walks or participating in playgroups. Over the years we have found that toys that are sent in get ignored and often we spend more time trying to keep track of these items. We have a multitude of toys in our play area for your pet to enjoy while they are outside.

  • You know your pup best. Some dogs really need to run around while other enjoy sniffing around at their own pace. Going out for walks or participating in playgroups can help to burn off any nervous energy and overall beaks up their day and keeps their spirits up while you are away. For elderly pets it is very important to get them up and moving to avoid getting stiff from laying around all day. Extra attention and a change of scenery is beneficial to all.

  • If you are planning on having someone other than yourself pick-up your pet, we will need their name and phone number in our files. In addition, payment for services is due BEFORE your pet is released from the kennel. To facilitate this, please leave a credit card with our office staff and we will charge your card on the day of departure and send your pet home with a receipt. While you are welcome to pre-pay this does not often fully cover the charges as travel plans and pick-up times tend to change.

Please leave our number and directions with your designated pick-up person and let them know if your pet is being bathed and what time you arranged for them to be picked-up. If your pet is not being bathed and you do not want to accrue another day of boarding fees, please be sure your pick-up person is aware the pet must be picked-up by 9am.

Your pet will not be released unless your outstanding bill has been settled. We are a small business and we appreciate your understanding!
